Vijaydurg & Sindhudurg Forts Gain UNESCO World Heritage Recognition

Two of Sindhudurg's most iconic historic landmarks, Vijaydurg Fort and Sindhudurg Fort, have achieved global recognition as part of the Maratha Military Landscapes of India, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 11 July 2025.
Both Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India under national laws, including the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act. UNESCO specifically records both forts among the eight components of the Maratha Military Landscapes that are protected by the ASI under national legislation
